It had been such a good day. Painting, then gifts from my mother and…well, a stranger. Still, I'd been given a set of wings, what wasn't to love, you know? I'd spent it with my two best friends, and we were having a blast speculating about where Arke's wings had been for the last few thousand years.

It was all too good to last.

The news came that evening, during supper. All the campers had gathered to eat. We'd gotten no less than three new kids that day. Triplets, two boys and a girl. Their mother was Athena, and as their councilor, Annabeth was making sure they knew what to do.

Because she is the coolest lady villain EVER. My brother and I were obsessed with the game 'Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego?', and I think I can accurately blame it for my fascination with history.

Also, fedora, brunette, red trench coat (though mine is more a peacoat...), thief...she's so seriously cool.

And I'm REALLY proud of the shading here! It's so bloody fantastic! I've heard before that using purple as shadows for red works well but I could never get it to look right before!

Oh I soooo miss Carmen Sandiego. The old cartoon (the cool one with the virtual-head dude that looked almost exactly liked Egon from Ghostbusters, not the crummy one that mixed live action and cartoons) was awesome, and the 'Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego' game (for PC) kept me distracted for hours.

She's the direct inspiration for one of my semi-villainous characters named Trident. Up until Carmen came along I'd never seen a female villain that was anything other than a sexist stereotype; she changed the rules for me, and I love all the more for it. ^^
