Fight Back

She hated him. She loved him, but boy did she hate him. The stupid messy haired boy who she’d had a crush on for years. The stupid boy with glasses who had kissed her and left her only a few months later. The stupid green eyed boy who was off saving the world. The stupid Chosen One.

That stupid Harry Potter.

Ginny knew she could never fully hate him. He’d had his reasons for leaving. Good ones. She understood, better than most girlfriends, why he’d broken things off with her. His hero complex couldn’t let him do anything else. He couldn’t even leave her with a promise that he’d come back to her. Because they both knew it might not happen. They both knew that if the Death Eaters got even a hint of his feelings for her, they’d exploit them.

He had work to do, and if he was worried about her all the time, then he might not get it done. And the Wizarding World as a whole was more important than her own feelings.

At least that’s what she tried to tell herself. Some days it was easier than others. Some days she wished he’d taken her with him. Then she wouldn’t be stuck here at school. Stuck here wondering where he was. What he was doing. If he was alright or – calling to mind one of her mother’s favorite sayings – dead in a ditch somewhere.

She took out her frustration on the Carrows. On Snape. On anyone who dared say that they had the right idea. On anyone who said that fighting back was pointless. With Neville and Luna at her side, they led Hogwarts in a miniature revolution. Fighting back was all they had. Fighting back was the only way she could possibly help.

Harry was out there fighting, her brother and the smartest witch Ginny had ever met were out there fighting. The least they could do here was fight back too.

And so that’s what she would do. She would fight back.

My entry for the 'Fighting Back' contest at #Artists-at-Hogwarts There were so many people fighting back during the wizarding war, but the one that always hit was that of the students still at Hogwarts, most notably the Silver Trio.

And Ginny's story didn't always hit me really hard, but she grew on me a lot I can't imagine how hard it would have been being stuck at the castle, trying to help in any way she could and feeling like it was never enough...she's really such a strong character and though we don't see much of her in the books themselves, I've filled in enough in my head that I really do know just how awesome she is
